A six-week course on Christian Meditation starts this Sunday, 8th May, at 6.00pm in St Elizabeth’s Church, Woodham.
Speaking about the course, Revd Elizabeth Bland said, “Many people are unaware that meditation has been part of Christianity from its earliest years, nearly 2000 years ago. The Bible tells us that Jesus himself went regularly away by himself to pray in solitude, and the Desert Fathers and Mothers were contemplative people.
As our world becomes increasingly busy and noisy, 24 hours a day, so we human beings increasingly need space and stillness. The lack of that is, I believe, part of what has contributed to the rise in mental health issues in our times.
This six week course uses material from the World Community of Christian Meditation. All that is required from those who attend is a desire for stillness and the persistence to seek that.”
