Dear Sir,
As a parent of two young football loving boys from Youens Crescent I feel I must reply to the flurry of comments in recent weeks about the fenced off area.
Yes, there are children that play football in the street – this isn’t a new concept and I’m sure those that no longer have young children can recall their own children or themselves playing outside when they were young. I’m also sure there are readers from across the town reading this that have children that play in their streets.
Unfortunately balls bounce and on occasion may have gone into gardens, or bumped against cars but this isn’t deliberate. I bought my house in Youens Crescent, as a development of 4 and 5 bedroom homes knowing there would be other families with children that would play outside with mine.
I for one am not prepared to tell my children to stop playing out in their own street. The grassed area is a nice to have – many other streets, especially on new developments don’t have such a space and I’m sure even if it was accessible there would still be protest over it’s use.
Whilst I agree the metal fencing is an eyesore and the communication from Miller and the Council regarding it’s restriction has been tenuous, this isn’t about a grassed area marked on the site plan that’s out of bounds – It’s about children and letting them play – regardless.
