Lifeline Community Action (LCA) would like to thank FareShare food distribution for their kind donation of food to feed 100 children, young people and adults on their very much needed holiday at the Jonas Centre between 15th and 20th of August 2015.
The people chosen for this holiday are people who would never be able to afford a holiday normally; they are also in financial difficulty or suffer with illnesses or disability in some way or have suffered trauma that causes them deep distress in their everyday lives.
This short holiday allows these people to relax and forget about their worries for a few days, it brings families together so they can spend time having fun together, enjoy not having to worry about how they will pay for food and bills for just one week out of their struggle in their everyday lives.
Volunteers from LCA work hard to raise funds for these holidays every year, now with the support from FareShare we are able to give these very needy people nutritious food to make their holiday complete.
When we told the people going on the holiday about FareShare’s donation they were overjoyed, one mother said ‘It means so much to me and my family as my husband can only get part time work and we do struggle to make ends meet at the best of times.  To get help like this is really overwhelming and a massive help to us” Thank you to all those involved in making this possible!
Michael Shields of Changing Lives FareShare North East said, ‘It’s wonderful to see a community project such as Lifeline Community Action providing such an effective link between FareShare’s surplus food and local people in need. FareShare serves over 80 other community projects in the area with surplus food and we want to increase the amount of support we provide to the region and welcome approaches from other community groups.
The fantastic work of Lifeline Community Action illustrates perfectly the positive impact surplus food can make to communities – offering both vital food provision and additional services to people in need. I really hope they all enjoy their holiday’
