At the second attempt a vote to change the name of the Youth Centre to include “Community” was carried at a special general meeting last week.
There was an objection raised by a County Council officer Paul Hebron who was under the mistaken impression that the emphasis on youth work would suffer.
The Chairman Vince Crosby was quick to assure everyone that there would be no change in the general operation of the centre and youth work would always receive priority. In fact it is written into the constitution, but it was made very clear that without community use the Youth Centre would not be viable and the name change recognised this situation.
The change of name was only to reflect the use of the centre which has become a focal point for many community events in Newton Aycliffe.
