Dear Sir,
For a number of years the Council under a number of differing titles have supplied us with a special wheelie bin for the sole use of disposing of our garden waste through a fortnightly collection service.
They, in their infinite wisdom, have now decided this will no longer happen due to the need to save money, but I have a number of questions:
1. Why do they think everyone can afford the suggested fee of £20 to continue to use this service in these austere times?
2. What do they suggest happens to the wheelie bins of the people who choose not to use the £20 service?
3. How do they expect people with large gardens to dispose of their rubbish if they can’t afford the £20?
4. What about the money recouped from compost they have sold, made from all the garden rubbish collected in the past?
5. Do they think it will be a viable operation to run if only a few people continue to use the service on payment of £20, or will they then lose it for lack of support?
What I think will happen is that the majority of users will revert back to what they did before garden bins were introduced and that is to bag it and put it into the ordinary bin. This will then increase the amount the Council have to pay in taxes for landfill rubbish.
Please use your common sense, Councillors, and leave the system in place, or be prepared to pay the extra landfill taxes without complaint with no savings made by this decision.
