SSAFA – The armed forces charity wish all Newtonians a very happy new year.
We are delighted to inform you after a long search we found a suitable replacement to take over the Divisional Secretary’s post. Susan Nixon will assume the duties of Sedgefield divisional secretary, Liz and I will be taking a backseat as caseworkers.
You may be interested to know that last year our intrepid volunteers dealt with 60 cases and spent £31,821 on their welfare.
Every member of the Armed Forces knows about SSAFA, not just because we are the senior charity, but because we are the only charity liaising directly with serving units, when mum is sick at home, and her son is worried about her health, the son’s unit welfare officer will probably ask us to visit and write a report.
Further details of the support available can be found on the internet: www. ssafa.org.uk
Although working alongside the MOD, we are not funded by them and in addition to casework we have to raise our own funds. Fortunately there are some wonderful organisations in our area that we can also turn to in particular, the Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor Rotary Clubs, Darlington Lions Club, Great Aycliffe Community Aid Partnership.
We were delighted to hear from Gordon Howe, Swimathon Chairperson and learn that we have been nominated as one of the beneficiaries of Swimathon 2016 which will be held in the Spennymoor Leisure Centre on 8th May 2016
Liz and I are have thoroughly enjoyed our work with SSAFA, if you need our help in future
