On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of October it will be the start of the national development boxing championships held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. Boxing starts around 13 .3 0. Aycliffe Amateur Boxing Club will be represented by 4 very capable boxers, SENIOR: Blake Stanbra – 69kg, Jake Bird – 64kg, JUNIOR: Jack Roddam – 52kg and Molly Hughes – 42kg. This is the first round of the championships to find the champions to represent the Tyne Tees & Wear amateur boxing association in the Pre quarter-final, after that move on to the quarter final, semi-final and final. 5 or 6 wins in one month are needed to become the national champion but these four are quite capable of doing the business, and they have all the support of Aycliffe Amateur Boxing Club members. One young man JAMES LEPIODEVIN has made it all the way on two occasions to win the schoolboy championship and the cadet championship, and James has been entered into the national association of boys and girls clubs for young people boxing championships at Hartlepool on the 22nd of October. Aycliffe Boxing Club train on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evening from 6pm, at Acorn House, Durham Way North, Aycliffe Business Park, DL5 6HP, anyone wishing to join or pop in to see what we do are welcome, membership starts at the age of 6 and all coaches are qualified and have been checked by the DBS and are first aid trained.
