Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray will shine a light on great women who have shaped history when she visits the North East next month.
The BBC Radio Four presenter is set to inform and inspire audiences at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Monday, 11 February.
Based around her book of the same name, A History of the World in 21 Women celebrates women from all over the globe, rescuing some from obscurity and taking a fresh look at familiar figures.
The brand new show follows Jenni’s sell-out talk A History of Britain in 21 Women, which the Gala Theatre hosted in 2017 as part of the Durham Book Festival.
Artists, politicians, activists, reporters and heads of state, past and present, are all featured in this entertaining and insightful talk – from Marie Curie and Frida Kahlo, to Empress Cixi of China.
By discussing the struggles and achievements of women whose stories are so often censored and forgotten, Jenni will quash philosopher Thomas Carlyle’s infamous declaration that “the history of the world is but the biography of great men.”
Robin Byers, Gala Theatre manager, said: “Who better to celebrate women who have shaped the world we live in than Jenni Murray?
“For more than three decades she has interviewed inspirational women from all backgrounds and reported on the issues that matter to them. A History of the World in 21 Women is a chance to find out about unsung heroines and gain a fresh perspective on those we think we know.”
The talk begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost £18. To book, call 03000 266 600 or visit www.galadurham.co.uk
