Woodham Academy had the pleasure of hosting their careers fair last week, the first they have been able to do in the last 2 years. A number of educators and businesses were invited back into the building and gave the KS4 students an opportunity to learn about the endless opportunities available to them.
During the event year 9, 10 and 11 were given the chance to speak to educators about post 16 progression in A levels, Apprenticeships and much more. Students were encouraged to ask lots of questions, gather information about courses and wider life in colleges such as Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Durham Sixth Form Centre, Bishop Auckland College, Catch 22, Darlington College, New College Durham, East Durham College, UTC, ASK, the Northern School of Art and the Academy of Sound and Music.
Each of the further education providers put on a great stall for the students where they were able to give out information booklets about courses, travel and extra-curricular activities. There really was something for everyone.
As well as this they had a number of businesses in attendance such as Hitachi Rail, 3M, Engie Construction, McDonalds, ITEC North East, Livin and the Royal Air Force. The students particularly enjoyed gaining an insight into these businesses and having the chance to try out some of the technology as well as discovering how many exciting opportunities there are, right on their doorstep. Overall, the afternoon was a huge success and the students left the fair feeling like they were more confident in their choices, whether that be choices in the summer or in the coming years.
