A group of entrepreneurial students from Woodham Academy have been on a money making mission to fund a prototype of a ground breaking device they have designed for market.
The Year 8 students who are taking part in the Future Business Magnates programme, which has been running since the beginning of the year, have produced an energy efficient kettle which they hope will win them big points on the scoreboard for the business competition organised by Business Durham.
There are 20 schools from across the county taking part in this year’s competition with a variety of innovative and creative business ideas.
The Woodham Academy team has created the Coffee and Tea Green Machine Kettle, which has been designed to collect the steam, created from boiling the kettle and reuses this as energy to power the kettle. Throughout the competition the team have received guidance and support from their business mentor, Emma Little.
In the latest round of tasks, the group has had to think of a way to fund producing a prototype of their product. The students organised a cake sale including making the cakes and selling them throughout the day. A triathlon was also organised, with the students participating in running, swimming and rowing to gain sponsorship money.
In total the dynamic team raised £372 which they hope to use to help create a physical version of their clever idea. Half of the money will also be donated to The Little Princess Trust, the charity provide wigs for children suffering with Cancer.
The competition will conclude at the end of June, with the team with the most points being crowned the overall winner.
