December saw the end of an era as Brown Owl – aka Paula Bromley as she finally put away her famous Guiding rugby top! Paula has led the Newton Aycliffe Guides and Brownies at St Clare’s Church for quite some time now and as she said (with a twinkle in her eye) that now she is approaching her 29th Birthday she felt it time for a new challenge! What Paula has never publicised is just how much she has given to the Community over the last 32 years.

Not only has she had an influence over literally hundreds of young people from all over the town, inspiring them with her indomitable patience, enthusiasm and energy, but she has also been a mother figure to all the children she has fostered. Paula is also regularly found helping at Messy Church at St Clare’s – where I am sure she will continue her involvement – and always willing to lend a helping hand, always smiling and unfailing in her optimism. As a token of appreciation, Paula was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne by Jennifer and Kira Banks and is pictured with some of the Brownies who were there to see her off. Brownies and Guides will continue with Susan Mills taking over the leadership. Susan can be contacted by anyone interested in joining or helping on 07881 684713.
