Dear Sir,
A recent letter in the Newton News complained about the poor broadband provision in Ryder Court. In fact this matter was brought to my attention in July, when I visited all the houses there, asking if there were any issues residents wished to raise with me. A number of people mentioned poor broadband reception and this was because Ryder Court was still connected to the main Aycliffe exchange, and not to a street cabinet (PCP).
I contacted Digital Durham, who – working with BT OpenReach – are charged with the task of upgrading internet services across the County. I am delighted to be able to tell you that, just before Christmas, BT OpenReach successfully connected Ryder Court and St Andrew’s Court to Cabinet 23.
I have to thank BT OpenReach, but especially the officers at Digital Durham, whom I phoned every fortnight since July to enquire about progress, and who throughout treated me with patience, courtesy, and an unremitting enthusiasm to get the job done.
Cllr John D Clare
(Aycliffe North & Middridge)
