Athena Sports Academy now has British silver medal-winning gymnasts amongst their ranks!
Tai Hodgson and Oscar James, both aged 8, represented the North region at the NDP finals competition on Saturday 18th May and performed an amazing Acro gymnastics routine to take home 2nd place, narrowly missing out on the gold.
Tai, who attends Stephenson Way school, and Oscar, who attends Byerley Park school, have both been with the club for a number of years and progressed through the clubs development programme and partnered together during 2018. The boys train seven and a half hours per week, as well as practising out of hours, much to the admiration of their supportive parents. “The boys are fantastic together. The chemistry they have on the floor is brilliant to watch” says Tai’s proud mother, Sarah.
Head coach, Brittainy Carruthers, pays testament to the boys, “Tai and Oscar have really knuckled down and worked hard. This was the biggest competition that the boys have taken part in and they should be proud of such a fantastic routine. Their patience, hard-work and commitment has certainly paid off and we’re sure to see great things from them as they progress”.
A special mention also goes to Layla Wharton and Macey Alderson who qualified for the same competition but had to withdraw due to injury. We’re positive you’d also have achieved something special but it wasn’t to be. Maybe next year!
Athena Sports Academy has had gymnasts represent the region for 7 years running, which really shows the sustainability of the club and is testament to the dedication and commitment of the coaching team.
