Dear Syd I’ve never commented on the Linden Place/Whinlatter Place missing bridge until now. As a resident of Whinlatter Place for some years now, this bridge, in my opinion, was the least used of all three. Given its proximity to an already existing stone bridge only one hundred yards away on Williamfield Way and the heavily used one leading to the lower end of Whinlatter/Kirkstone Place, I would have to agree with the local authority and say that this bridge is the least essential one of the lot as the existing bridges are close enough to each other not to inconvenience anyone. The only houses on Linden Place it benefitted were the ones closest to it, yet they are as close to the stone bridge so after hearing this bridge was being removed pending a decision to replace it, I didn’t notice any increase in footfall over it. As we already have provision for crossing the Burn in various places and close by, I have to say a new one simply isn’t needed. Darran Weston
