13 year old Jessica Butterworth, a year 9 student at Woodham Academy has trained with Zanshin Kai Karate in the town for almost three years and was recently awarded her black belt after a very gruelling two hour display of all areas of the sport including kata and sparring.
It is quite an achievement for someone of her age. To top things off, Jessica, who is also a Junior Instructor at the club won the ‘Student of the Year’ trophy at the recent club Christmas Party and Presentation Night.
Jessica’s younger brother Matthew, who is 9 and attends Vane Road School also trains at the club and was awarded his brown belt recently as well as a ‘Dedication’ award at the presentation night for his hard work during lessons.
They have both done fantastically well and are a credit to the young people of our town. They both train with the club, based at Woodham Community Centre twice a week. Their Mother, Grandma and Grandad would like to pass on their huge congratulations to them both for their hard work and commitment to the club.
