Bishop Auckland showcased a drive towards alternative ways to travel, when the Electric Vehicle Roadshow came to town.
Electric bikes and cars were on display and ready to ride in Bishop Auckland market place, and people took up the chance to give greener transport a go.
Future plans to create more charging points across County Durham were also discussed by Durham County Council, which successfully applied for and was awarded £250,000 funding from Innovate UK to launch the Scaling On Street Charging Infrastructure (SOSCI) project.
The days events coincided with the opening of the newly refurbished Auckland Castle, following multi-million pound input by The Auckland Project.
Cllr John Clare, Cabinet support member for economic regeneration, said: “Transport is the only area of the County Durham energy economy where emissions are not declining, so it was great for people to get a hands-on experience and test drive electric cars and bikes. As the opening of the Castle encouraged visitors to look back at County Durham’s rich past, the EV roadshow is steering us into the future.”

The roadshow marked the national launch of the Green Great Britain Week and was a partnership between Durham County Council, Innovate UK, The Auckland Project, the SOSCI project and UK Government Dept of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
