What a fantastic day we had when ‘Birds of Prey’ from Walworth Castle visited us at Woodham Burn Out of School Club. Tori visited with her birds Chirpy, Alfie and Keith, an Owl, a Kestrel and a Harris Hawk and started by talking about their habitats.
The children learnt how the birds live in the wild, how and what they eat and how they hunt their prey. All of the children listened intently as Tori showed the children how the birds glide over their prey without a sound! The children then had an interactive session with Tori and the birds, the children sat on a bench and Tori had the birds fly over them getting lower and lower until they could almost feel the wings on top of their heads. Next Tori asked the children to get in two lines flying the birds between them, she asked the children to step closer and closer as the birds flew in-between them the children gasped as they flew past. One lucky child held her hand out and Tori flew the bird onto her hand. Lastly the children lay on the floor in a line and the birds flew from one end to the other again they were so close the children said they could feel their wings getting closer and closer.
A huge thank you to Tori and her staff for visiting the club and making our day such a memorable one.
