Lottery Funded Garden

Aycliffe Village Primary School has been granted £8,250 to develop a Stimulating Sensory and Edible Garden.

The Pupils in the school are delighted by the news of the Award.  The pupils, staff and members  of the local Community have worked hard over the last few years to develop features in the school grounds and this will allow the next phase to become a reality.

The money will be used to provide a poly tunnel for growing things in. It will also provide a series of paths made from different materials and textures. These will give different sounds and feel as pupils walk on them.

The garden will contain plants that have different smells and will be a range of different colours. It will also provide a bouldering wall to help pupils develop co-ordination skills.

In addition to the plants and paths, pupils will learn about food production on a local scale, a regional scale, a National scale and on a World scale as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme- again funded by part of the bid.

The School was supported during the application process for the bid by Michelle Postma, the School’s Extended Services Co-ordinator. For her help, we are very grateful.

The school has a year to develop the garden and any local contractor that would be able to offer any help in the development, should contact Mr Gargan or Mrs Brown at the school on 01325 300227.
