Dear Sir,
On 19th June around 5.30pm I was walking my dogs along St Cuthbert’s Way past Gestamp towards the town. On the old part of the building before reaching the bus stop on the other side of the road a large seagull landed on the roof and began a series of threat warning noises.
It had already done this at 7 am today, but now the bird left the roof and flew directly towards myself and missed my head by about a foot. The bird turned flew high over myself, and again swooped down at my head. I ducked and fortunately, keeping an eye on the bird, with talons extended and loud shrieking noise it missed my head by about an inch. I turned to walk in the opposite direction, when the bird returned and again flew straight towards the top of my head. On reaching the end of the green wire fence the bird returned to the roof. I rang Durham Police for advice, they said it’s not their problem so I asked at the gate reception desk at Gestamp and was told it would be passed on, but there was nothing they can do.
Someone needs to do something and I do understand the Gull is protecting it’s nest and territory, but someone could be seriously hurt.
Michael Simmons
