North Eastern Regional Swimming Championships were held at the Aquatic Centre Sunderland on the 5th and 6th November. This event was made up of two short course gala’s running at the same time. There was such a demand for seats that many spectators were unable to access the event. Hannah Featherstone competed in the Senior Gala winning five gold medals all in new best times. The events were the 200 and 100 FS, the 200 and 100 Backstroke and the 200 Individual Medley. These are the best results any swimmer from the club has achieved at this level and will influence events she will choose to compete in at the Winter Nationals to be held in Sheffield in December. Niall  Coulthard  and  Leah Smith competed in the Age group Gala in fifteen events. Niall swam in the 200 100 and 50 FS. The 200 100 and 50 Butterfly. The 200 and 100 Individual Medley He took gold medals in the 200 and 100 Butterfly and silver medals in the 200 FS and 100 Individual Medley and bronze medal in the 200 Individual Medley. A truly stunning overall performance with the 200 Fly the best of all. In this event he went from an entry time of 2:30 to win in a time of 2:22 in what is accepted as one of the hardest events of all. Leah swam in seven events. The 200 100 and 50 Breast Stroke The 100 and 50 Back Stroke the 50 FS and the 100 Individual Medley. Despite posting best times on most of her swims she just missed out on the medal placing. Her best swim was a new event for her, the Individual Medley in which she gained 5th place in a time of 1:13:66. Elisabeth Yaneski travelled a little further from home to defend her Scottish National Masters 1500 meter title in Glasgow. She had a comfortable swim to take gold in a time of 20:05 As always are sincere thanks to the staff at the Leisure Centre who make all this possible.
