Dear Sir,
We now have the dark Autumn mornings and FOG. I am shocked and in some cases not really surprised by the number of drivers who either don’t switch on their lights or use their lights incorrectly.
Then there are the one headlight vehicles and cyclists with no lights, it’s not rocket science to check your lights are working or how to change a bulb, if you can’t do it yourself get someone to help.
Using your lights when it is Foggy the Highway Code States; Rule 226
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves. Some drivers only use sidelights and this is not enough.
Rule 236
You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.
Some drivers switch them on their rear fog lights when there is only a slight mist, blinding the driver behind.
