It was so lovely to open our school doors to all our pupils again on Monday 8th March. There is a real buzz in the air with busy classrooms again! Remote learning has been a real challenge for everyone, and as emotional wellbeing is high on our agenda at Sugar Hill, Mr Foxton and Miss Middleton, our Sport and PE leads, organised yoga sessions for children in Years 2 – 6 when they returned to school.

The sessions were run by Emma from the company Yoga Mike. Children were able to try out a range of moves, as well as take part in a period of relaxation, giving them time to think about their return to school and reflect on the time they have spent at home.

The 30-minute sessions focussed on the children’s mental health and wellbeing, which has been an important factor considered by all the staff as children have returned to the classroom. We have been left wondering, when all restrictions are lifted, if these taster sessions lead to any budding yoga enthusiasts. Watch this space!

A huge thank you to Mr Foxton, Miss Middleton and Emma.

Children and staff loved the sessions and it’s certainly something that would be welcomed on a more regular basis. After such a challenging year, anything that helps us pause, reflect and ‘be in the moment’, truly supports our mental health and wellbeing. At Sugar Hill we recognise that we are never too young to learn these skills for life and we hope to offer more experiences to all children across school very soon.
