On Sunday November 20th Newton Aycliffe Youth Girls U16 team completed a challenge few teams can complete. After doing the regular fundraisers for the last few years, manager John Newman decided to challenge the team with something a little different and organised a ‘sponsored Everest Climb’ on the walls of ROF59. The challenge would see the girls climb the height of Mount Everest, 8849m between the whole team. This would be a huge challenge for inexperienced climbers, building a huge sense of achievement and spirit throughout the team if they could reach the ‘summit’. The girls certainly didn’t duck the challenge and smashed it in just over 4 hours making over 42 ascents each. They were joined by some parents who also embraced the challenge to make it achievable on the day, big thanks to them. We would also like to say a big thank you to ROF59 and Dan White for allowing us the use of multiple sections of climbing walls and the use of the climbing gear in a fantastic show of support to our challenge. Thanks guys! Also a big thank you to Christian Espejo Sanchez for his amazing assistance throughout the day in Belaying for us, allowing us to tackle some of the more challenging walls ROF59 have to offer, Thanks Christian. Overall massive well done to each and every one of the girls who can now claim to have tackled Mount Everest and thanks to everyone for their generous sponsorships. Together we have so far raised over £1000 to help fund new kit/tournaments/activities. Well done all.
