Newton Aycliffe u23’s 6 v 1 Consett
From the start of the game the passing and movement, along with the ball retention, was back to the very best from this very good team. Aycliffe won a penalty but unfortunately missed it, followed by missing a few half chances. Then the ball was won in the Aycliffe half and three passes set Andrew Burrows away on the left, his cross was nodded home by Jack Mortimer. A long ball by Consett for an equaliser, as the Aycliffe lines weren’t cleared
Steven then found the ball at his feet 35 yards out, no-one came to close down and he let fly, hitting underside of bar and down what looked over the line but waved away by Ref.
A run from Richard Murray from our half to the edge of the visitors box, saw him force a save from the keeper and, with the ball coming back to him, he made no mistake to put us in front. HT 2-1. Some great football saw us over load Consett in their box with Mitchell Simons hitting the post then forcing their keeper in to a save, on the third attempt he added our third.
Sam Thompson was then clean though when their CB decided to karate kick him in the chest, penalty. I made a promise to keeper Arran Taylor that he could take one before the game up he steps and finds the bottom corner, 4-1. Some more lovely link-up play saw Sam square to Dylan Howe on the edge of the box to add our 5th, then Sam again broke free and, being unselfish, squared for Jack’s second of the game and our 6th.
From back to front and all five subs, Aycliffe were all superb throughout the match.
MOM: Andrew Burrows.
With an expected large crowd on Sunday 21st May at the Oakleaf, KO 1.30pm, Aycliffe need a point to win the League cup and hopefully on Friday we will have confirmation that we have been crowned league champions.
A well deserved double from an excellent season by a group of very good footballers.
