Aycliffe U12 Angels Blue 3 v Beamish Lionesses 0
Saturday 18 December 2021
On a foggy morning at The OakLeaf, the Blues took on a tough and physical Beamish team with only nine players available as Heidi, Hannah and Daisy being unavailable. Freyja made her debut in our last game and had her first full 60 minute match, equipping herself well. A few half chances fell to Faith, Sophie and Evie, but our breakthrough came about halfway through the first half. Faith was fouled 10 yards outside of the Beamish area and Evie lined up the free kick. She struck the ball powerfully and found the gap between the keeper and the player on the post, to give us a deserved lead.
Then Faith took a good throw-in which beat the Beamish defence and Evie took the ball in her stride and made no mistake, Beamish put us under some good pressure in the first half, but Erin, Ella and Charli held firm, HT 2-0.
Into the second half, Faith was on a mission after finding this to be a bruising encounter and clearly converted her frustration into regular attacking runs down the left, producing numerous shots. She got her reward with 10-15 minutes to go. Isobel produced a superb pass out of midfield which Faith latched onto and lashed the ball home into the right hand corner of the net. FT 3-0.
This win means that we now can’t be caught at the top of the premier division with two games left to play. The girls are premier division champions and can enjoy the final two games in January, having retained the league.
Our results this season have been built on a rock solid defence which starts from our attacking players and works right the way through to Layken in goal. We’ve only conceded 11 goals in 12 games and the nearest defence in the league has conceded 24.
Star Players: Players choice: Faith, Coaches choice: Isobel.
Aycliffe U13 Eagles 3 v Hetton Juniors 5
A disappointing first half for the Eagles as they were on the back foot from the initial whistle. Hetton dominated the play. The Eagles did create, just didn’t find the back of the net and found themselves 0-3 down at half time. The second half however was much better and Olly played a ball over to Jake who smashed it past the keeper. Hetton came back and got another goal 1-4. The boys weren’t giving up and got another goal with an awesome ball from Liam to Olly and a world class strike from Olly past the keeper. 2-4. Hetton again got another goal 2-5. The boys kept going until the final whistle and got another goal with a throw in from Will right into the box where Kaiden was waiting to tap it past the keeper. 3-5 FT. MOTM Zac
Aycliffe U8 Wildcats v Bishop Auckland
The girls started strongly and Macy finished calmly to open the scoring. Bishop fought back and drew level just before half time. The second half was again tight with Erin making a couple of brilliant saves to keep Bishop out. Ava, Elizabeth and Elsie all went close late in the game, whilst Brooke and Georgia kept it tight at the back. The game was a great advert for girls football and all the girls came off the pitch with smiles on their faces.
CLS Amazon Stompers 1 v Aycliffe U11 Girls 1
From the start Aycliffe looked like the stronger team and wasted no time putting CLS under pressure. It took 20 minutes to get the breakthrough we needed when a superb corner from Lyra found Lily on the back post, who smashed it into the roof of the net with her left foot for an outstanding one touch finish. HT 0-1.
The second half was very even, with both teams looking just as strong as each other. Our defence had to work extremely hard throughout the next 30 minutes and did an excellent job keeping CLS at bay while our forwards kept looking for a second goal. Although we created more chances it was CLS that got the only goal of the second half 4 minutes from time and we had to settle for a draw. FT 1-1.
