On Sunday 6th April four Triathletes made the short journey to Meadowfield Leisure Centre to take part in the Durham Duathlon. The 5k run – 25k bike – 5k run is a tough course that incorporates the dreaded Buttons Bank at Esh Winning. Weather conditions were good and showed in the race times with Graham Atkins coming in 1hr and 36 mins, Andrew Sedgwick also coming in 1hr 36mins (including a 2 min penalty) next was Gareth Elkin in 1hr 45 followed by Wendy Bake in 1hr 54mins. All four athletes performed well in this warm up event for the triathlon season.
Then on Sunday 13th Gareth Elkin was out racing again this time in a 10k run – 42k bike – 5k run at Newby Hall. Gareth did a fantastic time of 2hr 34 with a particular impressive first run where he managed a new personal best for his 10k time.
