Aycliffe Triathlon Club members have again been busy during the month of May with competitive triathlon and marathon events and the usual swim, bike & run training sessions. A group of members also got together socially for a new multi-sport event.

The swim / cake / run which was held at the idyllic Ellerton Lake – we think this may catch on so watch out for this event at the next Olympics!

First up on 7th May was Tracey Warrior who competed in the Ashington Triathlon, a 400 metre pool swim, a 24km bike ride out of the town with a climb up Bothal Bank finishing with a 5k run in the tranquil Ashington Woods. Tracey finished in an impressive 13th place in her age category with an overall time of 1:31:20.

Tracey was in action again on 19th May at the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon, a European Triathlon Union (ITU) qualifying event. This was a 750m open water swim in the regatta lake, a 20k closed road bike and a 5k run finishing at the grandstand in front of hundreds of cheering spectators. Tracey finished 22nd in her category in a time of 1:25:55.

Another ITU Championships Qualifying event was held the following day on 20th May at Eton Dorney Lake in Berkshire one of the iconic venues of the 2012 Olympic Games, representing the club was Nicola Darragh who competed in this 750m open water swim in Eton Dorney Lake, a 21.2k closed road bike and a 5k run along the side of the rowing tank. Nicola completed the triathlon in 1:23:25 coming in an impressive 12th in her category.

Fraser Kirkley and Mick Casey competed in the iconic Edinburgh Marathon on 27th May, the event attracted more than 30,000 runners, Fraser completed the 26.2 miles in a time of 4:00:07. Mick achieved a personal best at this distance with a time of 4:48:21; both fantastic achievements.

For the month of June there are more races and events planned as well as a range of training for club members including bike skills, training rides, run coaching, swim coaching and core strength and conditioning sessions.
