Aycliffe Tri Club’s second race report of August, which begins with two fantastic firsts for Dan Halladay and Michelle Scott at the quite blustery Weardale Sprint Triathlon. Dan won the race in a time of 01:11:19, Michelle was hot on his heels, finishing 1st female and 4th overall in a time of 01:14:51, while a late entry by Austin Donaghue, saw him finish a brilliant 8th in his age group, 18th overall, in a time of 01:20:41.
Over in Sunderland, swimming in the not so warm North Sea, two of our club members competed in the Suncity Sprint Triathlon. Graham Atkins crossed the line in 01:20:19, an excellent 7th position in his age group and 40th overall. Tracey Warrior’s hard work rewarded her with a 4th position in her age group, 99th overall.
And finally to the British Age Group Championships held in Liverpool. In amongst the jelly fish, Susan Brown held her head high to receive a Bronze medal in her age group, crossing the line in 02:18:12, with a 10k PB. Afterwards, she said it was ‘a great race, great atmosphere and one of my favourite swims.’ Melanie Rowland was equally pleased with her 13th position in her age group and a time of 02:43:36. And David Packham finished his first ever Standard Distance triathlon at this event in a time of 03:11:44.
