The annual North Eastern Regions Amateur Swimming Associations Short Course championships were held at the Sunderland Aquatics Centre on the 7th and 8th of December 2014.
Sedgefield 75 ASC had four swimmers attending the gala.
In the Age Group championships for the under fourteens Sedgefield had two competitors. In the ten year old girls age group Jessica Hall was competing in various events over the two days. Jessica performed extremely well in all of her events showing how recent training had prepared her for the championships achieving many personal best times and taking a bronze medal in the 200 metres backstroke event.
For the boys, eleven year old Niall Coulthard was competing in three events. In all of his events he achieved very good personal best times and took the bronze medal in the 200 metres freestyle event.
Both age group swimmers showed the potential they have for the future at this prestigious championships.
In the senior championships pool for 15 years and older competitors, Hannah Featherstone (15) and Matthew Bradley (16) competed. Hannah competed in eight events and achieved several personal best times and made finals in all the events that she entered taking gold and silver medals in seven of the events. Matthew swam in seven events over the two days with personal best times in six events and her achieved places in the finals of all of his events. He also took the bronze medal in the 100 metres breaststroke.
John Moore the club’s head coach was delighted with all four swimmers and was pleased that the training programme is working for both the younger and older swimmers. He was pleased to see that the age group swimmers show promise to continue the club’s competitive tradition and that his older established swimmers are still among the best in the region.
