On the 24th of June, Woodham Academy student Daniel Hoare attended the Durham Schools Physicist of the Year awards ceremony with his family, Head of Science Andew Jenkins, and Physics teacher Phil Dennis.
Alongside top students from a number of local schools, Daniel was presented with an award from the Ogden Trust, as well as a commendation for his excellent work and potential in Physics. There was also an opportunity to meet students and academics from the Physics department at Durham University and to see demonstrations of undergraduate projects.
As well as being an excellent achievement, this award qualifies Daniel for scholarships and bursaries from the Ogden Trust. The trust provides academic awards for outstanding young scientists with the aim of supporting them through higher and further education.
Of Daniel, Head of Science Andrew Jenkins said, “Daniel has an exceptional insight in to the world of science – very rarely have I come across a student so young who has made the conceptual links that are often not gained until students have left school. Daniel is always questioning the world around him and has all the skills needed to make an outstanding physicist.”
