Walworth Special School in Newton Aycliffe recently welcomed an Ofsted team to inspect both their academic and residential provision. The former inspection was a Short Inspection, one day, and the residential lasted three days.

The school were delighted at both Inspection findings the judgements being “good” for the academic and “outstanding” for the residential. The reports, which are available in full on the Ofsted website, commented very favourably indeed on the children and all that we try to achieve in school. The children work in a “calm, warm and welcoming school in which pupils` individual differences are recognised and celebrated”.

The focal point of any school has to be the children`s academic and emotional well being. Walworth is no different in trying to innovate new practices to support our children. New initiatives within school mean that we can now offer the children much more than just a curriculum to meet their educational needs, but can also fully support them in many other areas. “The school has made extraordinary progress to support children who have emotional, behavioural and or psychological needs”.

Head Teacher Mr Peter Wallbanks said that “everyone at Walworth is absolutely delighted with the outcomes of the Inspection. Walworth is fully supported by enthusiastic and knowledgeable Governors, appreciative parents and carers, highly skilled and dedicated staff in both school and residential, but most importantly by its most important commodity, its children”.
