There was another good turnout from Aycliffe Running Club in the first of the Redcar Coastal Runs over 5K and the strong wind didn’t prevent the club from performing well with some really fast times.
John Surtees was first home for the club in 12th position in 17:23, followed by Lee Wren, 36th in 19:02 and Dave Blewitt, 54th in 20:12.
Tracy Surtees was the first lady home for the club, 59th in 20:28, followed by John Burnside 64th in 20:44, Cyd Upton 74th in 21:31, Jodie McMaster 87th in 22:24, Michelle Zamir 90th in 22:37, Kelly Smith 95th in 22:57, Rob Nicholson 99th 23:18, Trish Kay 107th in 23:42, Dave Mackenzie 139th in 26:21 and Yvonne Williams 155th in 29:59.
Trish Kay recently travelled to the Lake District to compete in the Keswick Half Marathon only to be told on arrival that the race had been re-routed and it was either a 50 minute walk or a boat ride to get to the start, but with torrential rain all morning she may as well have swam it, she couldn’t have got any more soaked. However, the weather cleared up during the race and Trish began to enjoy the scenery, but the steep downhill sections began to take its toll on her calves and hamstrings and after 11 miles had to keep stopping because of a blister on the bottom of her foot. The finishing line was a welcome sight but even this was on a water- logged rugby pitch. Considering all this her time of 1:56:40 wasn’t bad at all.
Another member of the club, Callum Terry also ran in this race and his time was 1:49:32.
Four members of the club competed in the Tees Barrage 10K on Bank Holiday Monday. This popular race attracted a field of over 450 runners.
First to finish for the club was Dave Blewitt 77th in 43:31, followed by Robert Young 94th in 44:53, Mike Brunskill 165th in 49:02 and Paul Stretton 169th in 49:13.
