Aycliffe Club runners take on two challenging off-road courses and venture into a local duathlon to test their abilities.
On 17 April two Aycliffe runners ran in the challenging Guisborough moors 12 mile fell race. It was a dry sunny day but conditions under foot were boggy and slippery.
Seasoned fell runner Dez Fielden was first back for the club in 13th position in an excellent time of 01 hour 39 minutes. John Burnside managed to complete the course in 02 hours 15 minutes finishing in 103rd position.
On Saturday 23 April, club runners also participated in Hamsterley 10K, a challenging trail race with some tough climbs. Dave Blewitt was first home for the club in an impressive time of 45 minutes 30 seconds, he was followed by Martha McBarron in a time of 47 minutes 32 seconds. Next came John Heywood with a time of 48 minutes 04 seconds, who was followed by John Young in 49 minutes 49 seconds.
Club runners branched out on 24 April by getting involved in a dualthlon. On a cold but dry Sunday morning five Aycliffe runners took on different events at the Stockton duathlon.
Jimmy Wilson entered the novice race 2k run/ 10k bike/ 1k run and finished in a excellent time of 47 minutes 32 seconds.
Three runners competed in the sprint event 5k run/ 20k bike/ 2.5k run with Peter Milburn first back for the club in a superb time of 01 hour 07 minutes. He was followed by John Burnside in 01 hour 16 minutes (who placed 3rd over 60), closely followed by Peter Smith, who is retuning from 18 months out due to injury, in 1 hour 20 minutes.
Top club triathlete Graham Atkins took on the highly competitive standard event 10k run/ 40k bike/ 5k run and finished 82nd position in a brilliant time of 2 hours 16 minutes.
