Susan Clark Sunderland Marathon web

On Sunday 28th April members of Aycliffe Running Club travelled to Sunderland for three of the Marathon of the North Events

Weather conditions were not ideal with blustery wind and showers.  Despite the conditions, though, there were some really good times achieved.

In the 10K race Shelley McCormack was first back in 49:47 and a new PB for her.  Then followed Kat Aspey 58:28, Ronnie Pluck 61:32, Emma Scott 66:09 and Elaine Pearson 72:45. Laura Knox and Tracey Warrior also competed in this race but their times are still to be confirmed.

Despite still suffering from calf problems Trish Kay led Aycliffe home in the Half Marathon in an excellent time of  1:45.  Next was Penny Johnson, in training for Edinburgh Marathon, in 1:55 and Julie Nisbet in 2:10.  Yvonne Williams knocked 18 minutes off her last half marathon time by finishing in 2:15.  Craig Robinson, although feeling unwell, finished in 2:18.

In the Marathon, Martyn Knox had a great race to finish in 3:38. He was followed by Wendy Bake, who smashed her previous marathon time, in 3:53. Next was Rob Nicholson in another good time of 4:35.  Susan Clark, in her first marathon, was delighted with her time of 4:56

There were about 5000 competitors, in total, in these events and they were cheered on by supporters and marshalls along the routes. Members of the Quakers running club in Darlington had also given up their time to marshall and gave great support and encouragement to Ayclife Running Club.

On Tuesday 30th April Lee Wren represented Aycliffe Running Club at the NYSD track event in Darlington and was 1st in the 1500m in an excellent time of 4:47.

Aycliffe 10K and fun run is being held on 16th June 2013. For further details and application form please visit   http://www.ayclifferunningclub.org.uk/
