Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club start their 2014/2015 Season campaign with an away friendly fixture against Northallerton on 23rd August. This will be 3rd time lucky to try and beat the team who play in Yorkshire League division 3, Aycliffe have been close to beating them in the previous two seasons and it has become a tradition now and Northallerton have proved to be a good host and a great squad to test Aycliffe’s strengths.
Head coach Pete Ryans is looking forward to the new season, although it will not come without selection headaches, since the latest recruitment campaign proved successful and there has been an influx of new quality players from various South Durham teams. A sign that Aycliffe have done well recently, and it is hoped that Aycliffe carry on the momentum of a successful season last year, ending up 3rd in the league and winning the Durham County Plate.
The season kicks off officially with a County Cup fixture against Barnard Castle at Moore Lane on 30th August, followed by their first league fixture against Whitby away 6th September. Rugby supporters in general are welcome to watch any matches there is no charge for watching. Kick off times are currently 3pm.
It is not too late to join the club as a player, you do not need experience to join the training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7pm. Pete also runs junior coaching sessions on Wednesday evenings for school years 8, 9, 10 and 11.  Contact Pete for details 07796 172599.
Finally Aycliffe Rugby received a financial boost from the towns champion fundraiser Honest John, who kindly donated £500 from the Aycliffe community kitty. This will help towards new strips and pitch furniture. A huge thanks to John and the people of Aycliffe.
