Newton Aycliffe FC returned to Moore Lane Park last weekend for one of the biggest games in their history. The club has reached the Fourth Round (last 32) of the FA Vase & play Marske United on Saturday. Aycliffe beat Atherton Collieries in the repeatedly delayed Third Round match last week. That game was switched to Durham’s artificial pitch at short notice to beat the weather. Unfortunately it meant that many Aycliffe fans missed out seeing the team’s victory. They now get their chance with the all Northern League clash on Saturday.
The two sides last met on the opening day of the season with Aycliffe beating the current league champions, Marske, 2-1 with Dennis Knight netting the first of the 12 goals he’s scored so far this season.
If Aycliffe win this Saturday their reward is a 550 mile round trip to Camberley Town in Surrey the following weekend.  572 clubs started out on the road to Wembley in this season’s FA Vase & for our town’s team to make it this far is a great achievement. However, the management & players are determined to keep going.
Kick off on Saturday 23 January is 3:00pm. Admission: £6 adults, £4 concessions.
