The Northern Zone World Cup qualifiers in Karate took place in Bradford and five students from Newton Aycliffe took part. Annalise Tinkler entered a new category in the senior black belt opens and was very nervous being the youngest, but she showed them why she was the National Junior Champion last year.
She came 4th in Kata and had four fights, only getting beat in the final by the world champion, so she was very pleased. Dez Tinkler received two bronze medals for Kata and Kumite.
Three others from Aycliffe: Asa Fletcher, Jada Holden and Jenny Smith all medalled and qualified for the World Cup at the Echo Arena in Liverpool in July. All are now training hard for this massive test to show the world how good our Aycliffe club is in Kata and Kumite.
