Niall Coulthard age 12 student at Woodham Academy and a Sedgefield 75 swimmer was selected to support the North East Region at the National English School Divisional Championships short course in Leeds over the weekend on the 3rd and 4th October.
Niall is currently North East Region double champion in both 200m & 100m freestyle and due to his success secured his place to join his fellow swimmers from the North East Region at this competitive event.
Niall was selected to participate in 4 events against other Regional top swimmers from various regions in England. He achieved 2 personal best times on his individual events in the 200m Freestyle by achieved a new time of 2:11:54 coming in 3rd and on his 100m Freestyle achieved a new time of 1:01:83 again coming 3rd. He also supported the Boys relay team events in both 400m Medley and 400m Freestyle. The boy’s team did well on both events achieving 4th in the Medley and 3rd on the Freestyle.
At the end of the 2 day competition the North East Region finished overall winner and were presented with the winners’ trophy. This was well received as all the team who worked hard to secure best results over the 2 days on individual and team events.
Niall came away with 3 bronze medals and improved his British Rankings for his age group to 3rd place for the 200 meters freestyle and 6th for his 100meters freestyle in Britain.
