Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training had an excellent six wicket win at home to 4th placed Billingham Synthonia 2nd XI to consolidate their place at the top of the NYSD 3rd division. The visitors elected to bat first and found Aycliffe fast bowler Michael Howe in terrific form as he blasted out the top four batsmen for just 18 runs in his opening 7 over spell.
Left arm spinner Luke Telford carried on the good work, finishing off their innings with the superb figures of 5 wickets for only 9 runs as Billingham were bowled out for just 86 after 26.4 overs.
Opening batsman Luke Telford got Aycliffe off to a steady start with 20 runs, but the homeside lost 4 quick wickets to leave them stuttering at 47 for 4. However a timely unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 41 between Adam Gittins (27 not out) and Sean Morgan (10 not out) saw Aycliffe to an ultimately comfortable victory after 28.3 overs.
There are now only 3 games remaining as Aycliffe seek to achieve the noteable feat of not only gaining promotion in their inaugural season in the NYSD, but possibily winning the divisional title as well.
