Could you offer a child a loving family?  Ever thought about bringing someone special into your life by adopting a child? The council has children waiting to hear from someone like you.

Durham County Council is currently looking for families living in the Aycliffe area who can offer a child a permanent family through adoption.

Claire, 41, and Tom, 44, have recently been approved as adoptive parents. They have been matched with two children and are excited to meet their new family.

Tom said: “We knew that we couldn’t have any children naturally, we tried IVF and it didn’t work out for us. We have always wanted a family and so began to seriously consider adoption.

“We e researched online and it really scared us as we began to worry that we would be too old or that we didn’t have the right income so we eventually decided to have our questions answered and attended an information session.

“I was worried beforehand about meeting a social worker and how they would judge us but when we arrived it was friendly and relaxed. The social worker answered all of our questions and we were reassured that all of the things we were worried about wouldn’t stop us from adopting.”

Tom and Claire attended an Information event which gives prospective adoptive parents the chance to think about adoption and meet some adoptive parents. You can also find out more about the professional support that is available to adoptive parents.

If you are thinking of adoption, an information event is taking place on Thursday, June 27 at Gala Theatre, Durham between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

It’s a chance to meet adoptive parents and chat with social workers who specialise in adoption. If you are unable to attend but would still like to find out more you can contact the Adoption Service by calling 03000 269 400, emailing adoption@durham.gov.uk or by visiting www.durham.gov.uk/adoption.
