Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s first team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training played their inaugural match in the NYSD league when they entertained Yarm 2nd team in their third division match and topped off an historic day for the club by winning the game by 77 runs.

Electing to bat first on an excellent wicket, the hosts totalled an impressive 191 all out after 40.3 overs with some good contributions from Graham Telford, who top scored with 41, Chris Palmer with 24 and Luke Telford who hit 20. In reply opening bowler Michael Howe (3 for 30) got Aycliffe off to a great start removing the first three Yarm batsmen with only 19 runs on the board.

The visitors staged a bit of a fight back until left arm spinner bowler Luke Telford was brought into the attack and the Aycliffe all rounder took four wickets for just 32 runs during his lengthy 14.1 over spell, which helped dismiss Yarm for 114 after 41.1 overs.

A very young Aycliffe second team were well beaten at home to Darlington RA by 9 wickets in the NYSD Sunday league. The home side were bowled out for 65 in their innings with only Oscar Pearson and Dan Weldon managing double figures and then Tom Gledhill (1-14) took the only wicket to fall during RA’s successful reply.
