Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club are delighted to have been asked to stage the forthcoming girls U11’s Inter County match between Durham and Yorkshire on Tuesday 10th August at the Sports Club. There will be two, back to back T20 games, the first is scheduled to start at 10.30am and the second will start at approx 2pm. Entry is free for all spectators, so please come to the club to watch the games as these talented young ladies would welcome your support.
Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s First Team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, had their away game abandoned as a draw, due to the rain at Saltburn 2nd XI in their NYSD division two clash. Electing to bat first proved to be an inspired decision by Saltburn captain Lewis Hart as he smashed 152 from 102 balls, which was the highest ever individual score against Aycliffe. Eventually his side amassed a huge 292 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs giving the Aycliffe bowlers Michael Howe (3 for 74), Jack Slatcher (2 for 54) and James Layfield-Carroll (2 for 66) a very difficult day in the field. The rain arrived during the interval, its persistence meant any further play was impossible and the game was duly abandoned and recorded as a draw.
The 2nd team game at home to Blackhall 2nds in the NYSD 4th division was also abandoned due to persistent rain with Aycliffe handily placed on 78 for 4 after 11.2 overs. Dylan Tribley had made his way to 29 not out off 25 balls and Owen Smith raced to 20 not out off just 10 balls when both captains agreed that, in the circumstances, any further play was impossible and the game was recorded a draw.
The club’s U15’s put in a record breaking performance to defeat local rivals Sedgefield by 16 runs in the NYACC league. The visitors won the toss, Aycliffe were asked to bat first and they piled up the runs with an U15’s club record team score of 150 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs. The opening pair of Owen Smith and Tom Dearden both scored unbeaten half centuries setting a new U15’s club record first wicket partnership of 98 in the process. Dan Heaton also batted well with 14 not out and Harrison Pearson chipped in with 12 runs for Aycliffe. In reply, Sedgefield were always in the game but Will Dearden’s 3 for 12 helped restrict the visitors as they finished their 20 overs on 134 for 4 to give Aycliffe a deserved win.
The U13’s lost by six wickets at home to Darlington in the NYACC league. Aycliffe were asked to bat first and scored a respectable 97 for 7 in their 20 overs, thanks to another good innings from captain Will Dearden (32 not out) and Alfie Spensley (14 runs). Darlington eased to victory after 19 overs despite a couple of wickets from Daniel Wild and one each from Jack Connors and Will Dearden.
