Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had an excellent seven wicket victory at home to Hartlepool 2nd XI. The visitors batted first and were dismissed for a below par 135 all out after 40.1 overs, thanks to some good bowling from Patrick Howe (4 for 19), Jack Slatcher (3 for 42) and Subhan Christudas (2 for 12). Sam Telford (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Telford) smashed the bowling to all parts of the ground as he reached his sixth half century of the season off just 30 balls. He was eventually
out for a superb 66 off just 38 balls and his memorable innings contained 11 hard hit boundaries and two big sixes. Other notable contributions came from opener Adam Gittins, who scored 27 and Subhan Christudas, who finished unbeaten on 23 as Aycliffe romped home to victory for the loss of just three wickets after only 24.1 overs. The second team were heavily defeated by 122 runs away at top of the table Norton 2nd XI in their NYSD 3rd division match. Norton batted first and scored 221 for 7 declared after 43.5 overs with Elliott Holt the pick of the visitor’s bowlers taking 3 for 49 and he was supported well by Joe Teasdale (2 for 54). In reply Aycliffe were bowled out for 99 after 24.2 overs despite good innings from Graham Telford (sponsored by DS Fitting Services) who scored a determined 38, Dan Craggs who scored a typically robust 20 and Stephen Sweeney who chipped in with 14. The second team were knocked out of the Eggleston cup in mid week when they were beaten at home by Coundon first team by 8 wickets. Electing to bat first Aycliffe scored 118 for 9 in 20 overs with good contributions with the bat from Joe Teasdale, who top scored with 27 and Stephen Sweeney and Dylan Tribley, who both scored 17 runs. The visitors eased to victory after 17.2 overs to take their place in the semi-finals. The u13’s were beaten away at Seaton Carew, but there were good performances with the bat from acting captain Joe Bowsher, who top scored with 19 and makeshift opener Will Varley who scored 8 runs. Kieran Shingler bowled well taking 1 for 17 from his 4 overs and special mention must go to both Nathan Slater and 9 year old debutant Daniel Heaton, who fielded superbly for Aycliffe. The u11’s had a tremendous 34 run victory at home to Barnard Castle in the NYACC league. Aycliffe bowled and fielded well with Matty Greaves, Harrison Pearson and 7 year old Will Dearden all taking two wickets each. In the Aycliffe innings, Josh Imerson top scored with an aggressive 16 not out to help the hosts to their sixth win of the season. Special mention must go to debutants Gregor Mills and Ollie Coulter, who both bowled and batted well in their first game for the club. The club continue to run the successful “Quick Cricket” sessions every Wednesday during the schools six weeks holiday, and have another session planned on Wednesday 3rd August, from 10am to 12pm, cost £3 per person, per session.
