Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, had a terrific win by 141 runs at home to Maltby 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe scored an impregnable 258 for 7 in their 50 overs thanks to a breathtaking century from opener Darryn Bancroft (sponsored by Utility Warehouse). Bancroft (see photo) finished on 121 from just 100 balls faced and his amazing innings included eleven boundaries and eight huge sixes.

There were other good contributions from fellow opener Joe Haines (32 runs), Adam Gittins (18 runs) and an unbeaten 18 late in the order from Ben Nicholson. In reply the visitors were bowled out for 117 from 34.2 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from Michael Howe (4 for 35) and younger brother Patrick, who not to be out done by his older sibling, took 4 for 27, including his first ever hat-trick, to help give Aycliffe the maximum 25 points for the 2nd consecutive game.

The 2nd team were desperately unlucky to lose away at Maltby 2nd XI by the smallest possible margin (one wicket), in the NYSD 4th division. Electing to bat first Aycliffe fought hard and scored a respectable 130 for 7 in their allotted 40 overs thanks to good innings from Dylan Tribley (37 not out), George Slatcher (33 runs) and Dave Richardson (15 runs). In reply, all rounder Slatcher bowled superbly taking 4 for 41 and there was good support from Neil Bancroft (3 for 22) and a first senior wicket for 13 year old debutant Matty Greaves (1 for 15) as the homeside crawled over the line after 32.5 overs in a tense finale.

The u15’s were beaten away at Norton by 50 runs despite a spirited performance from the young team. The homeside scored 124 for 2 in their allotted overs with Kyle Cuthbertson and Jak Kennedy both picking up a wicket. In reply Aycliffe were restricted to 74 for 4 in 20 overs with good innings from Leo Mercy (28 not out), Lucas Pilling (22 runs) and an unbeaten 11 from Kyle Cuthbertson.

The u13’s had a cracking eight wicket victory at home to Norton in the NYACC League. Batting first the visitors were bowled out for 60 after 18.4 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from the inform Thomas Dearden (3 for 8) and Brandon Grant (2 for 14). In reply, Matty Greaves batted superbly scoring 26 as Aycliffe romped to a fine win with 5 out of the allotted 20 overs still remaining.

The u11’s won their third game of the season at home to Norton by 49 runs. Harrison Pearson, Dan Heaton and Thomas Dearden each took two wickets in the Norton innings. When Aycliffe batted, the visitors found Harrison Pearson (16 runs), Adam Shaw (14 runs) and Thomas Dearden (11 runs) in top form.
