Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store couldn’t beat the weather as persistent rain forced their NYSD division two game away at Marske 2nds to be abandoned as a draw. Asked to bat first, Aycliffe scored 164 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs thanks good innings from Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Greaves), who top scored with an unbeaten 45, Darryn Bancroft (36 runs) and Patrick Howe (24 not out). The homeside innings never got started because of the rain which began to fall at the tea interval and the game was duly abandoned as a draw at 6pm.

The 2nd team lost by seven wickets away at a very strong Billingham Synthonia 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. After being asked to bat first, Aycliffe were skittled for 63 after 28.1 overs with only Dan Bowmer reaching double figures when he top scored with 23. In reply, the home side hurriedly reached their winning target for the loss of three wickets after 11 overs.

The u17’s travelled to Stockton in the NYSD Junior League and were beaten by 61 runs. Chasing the homeside’s total of 114 all out, Aycliffe were restricted to 53 for 8 in their 20 overs with man of the match Harry Wright following up his two wickets for 17 runs in the Stockton innings, by top scoring when Aycliffe batted with 14 not out.

The u13’s had a couple of games this week, on the Tuesday they lost away at Billingham Synthonia by seven wickets. Special mention must go to nine year old debutant Will Dearden, who bowled superbly and only gave away one run from his two overs and also ten year old Joe Ingman, who was also making his u13’s debut and marked the occasion by taking a wicket and holding a very good catch. On the Thursday the u13’s redeemed themselves with an exciting victory away at Barnard Castle by eight runs.

Batting first Aycliffe scored 86 for 7 in their 20 overs with Leo Mercy top scoring with 18 runs and Matty Greaves supporting well with 15 runs.

In reply, the home side were restricted to 78 for 9 in their 20 overs thanks to a great effort in the field by Aycliffe with five run outs recorded. Harrison Pearson was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 for 8 and Charlie Cayless and David Robinson both chipped in with a wicket a piece.
