With just a handful of games remaining things are really getting interesting for Darlington at the top of the Evostik North League. Wins over Northwich, Droylsden and Scarborough have pretty much turned the title chase into a two team race between ourselves and Salford. Salford have three games left, Darlington four, two home, two away.
That game in hand, and just the three points separating the two clubs, suggests that this next couple of weeks is likely to be a tense affair. Darlo require the not so small matter of four wins out of four to secure automatic promotion, anything less means relying on Salford to slip up somewhere along the line.
First up is Mossley on Saturday at Heritage Park, kick off 3pm. Mossley lie sixth in the table, just outside the play off places. But, having beaten other play off hopefuls in recent weeks this should be straightforward, shouldn’t it?
It’s worth mentioning that we had a great day out at Scarborough (Bridlington) on Easter Monday. A great game between two even sides. The Boro fans were full of banter but there was no animosity between fans and we left tired but relieved. All the best to Scarborough on their ambitions to return to the football league and move home.
We are organising an Aycliffe branch of Darlington Supporters Club. We will meet on Wednesday 15 April at 7pm in the Iron Horse. All are welcome to attend but if you can’t make it please email me at alanmbennett@hotmail.com or follow on twitter @aycliffequaker and we’ll make sure you’re on the mailing list for events and travel. Keep the faith.
