Four Newtonians were amongst a team of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grapplers who travelled to take part in a large competition at the weekend. David Cunliffe, John-Paul Cockeril, Harry Cockerill and Chris Naisbit all train at NEJJ club and took part in the regional event to test their skills against some of the best grapplers around as they warm up for the British Open in two weeks!
Jp came away with a gold medal, Harry a silver, Chris gold and a silver, Dave double bronze. Some of the team had up to 7-8 matches during the event which had a very high level of BJJ. Dave and Jp run the Northeast Jiu Jitsu Aycliffe branch under Ellis younger, a world class purple belt.
Classes are Thursday 8-9pm and Sunday 3-4pm for anyone interested in real BJJ, something Aycliffe has never had! Stay tuned, the club intends to continue achieving throughout the year!
