Alex Lineton, who is a member of Aycliffe Running Club recently competed in the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham. The Outlaw is an ironman distance race consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride followed by a full marathon, all of which had to be completed in less than 17 hours.
When the swim race started at 6am the rowing lake was awash with over a 1000 athletes which eventually spread out as everybody found their own pace. Alex completed the swim in 1:18:48 and then prepared for the cycling stage.
The bike ride was hard as the wind picked up after 20 miles. The route on the whole was very rural and took in a lot of villages to the south of Nottingham but Alex was pleased to finish this section and get off the saddle after 5:48:07
Finally, a small matter of running a marathon! By now the wind was even stronger as the route took the runners round an exposed lake. The support was fantastic and the finishing chute was really something to savour. Alex was so thrilled he grabbed his daughter from his wife and ran the last 100m with her, crossing the finishing line in a run time of 4:16:29.
The whole triathlon took Alex 11 hours 32 minutes 26 seconds, finishing 186th and was 16th in his age category.
