You are invited to be part of the celebration.

Renee Glover, a former Aycliffe Angel will be celebrating her 106th birthday on Sunday 21st June. The family have put out an appeal via the home where Renee lives, for 106 birthday cards from well wishers to commemorate this fantastic milestone.

However, a group of local organisations are hoping to do much better than that and would like to encourage residents in Newton Aycliffe to drop a birthday card for Renee into the special collection bin in Tesco’s entrance.

As a start to the celebration for Renee’s birthday, ROF59 and Aycliffe Radio are presenting an afternoon of musical performances from the 1940s to today, via Facebook live as well as the station online feed which will take place on Saturday 13th June (which is also the Queen’s birthday).

The Facebook live performance will go live at 1.00pm and will include performances from Jenna Highfield, Neville Jones and Jay Murray (from the Cavern Club, Liverpool)and can be viewed on the Aycliffe Radio Facebook Page and listened via any device with the TuneIn radio app.

The following Saturday, 20th June, will see a special event for Renee as Aycliffe Bike Club members will meet outside ROF59 to join in the celebration and deliver the, hopefully, large sack of birthday cards to Renee at her home in Darlington at Wilton House care home.

Renee worked at the Royal Ordnance Factory as an inspector during the war years making bombs and ammunition for the front line, helping the war efforts like so many other women, while the men were away.

Please help make this a great birthday for Renee and one for her family to remember, please drop a card in our collection bin at Tesco, before Friday 19th June.
