1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets recently held their annual presentation evening at the RAFA Club. The squadron continues to provide excellent opportunities for the cadets as was evident by the number of awards and certificates given out. The event began with the enrolment of a new cadet and then the award of badges for academic achievements. Nationally recognised awards such as Heartstart first aid certificates and BTec Diplomas in Aviation Studies were then presented along with Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

The second half of the evening saw the awarding of the squadron’s trophies for 2016 by Deputy Wing Commander, Sqn. Ldr. John Scott, and the squadron’s Commanding Officer, Flt. Lt. Karin Scott.

Scott Trophy for Citizenship: Cdt. Grace Bain;

Crabbe Trophy for Aircraft Recognition: Cpl. Kieran Newbery;

Laverick Memorial Trophy for Shooting: Cdt. Grace Bain;

Sedgefield Veterans Trophy for Attendance: Cpl. Kieran Newbery;

Tom Downs Trophy for Endeavour: Cdt. Bradley Moresby-White;

Scott Shield for Most Improved Cadet: Cdt. Flt. Sgt. Craig Addison;

Padre’s Award: Cdt. Flt. Sgt. James Simon;

Mess Tin Trophy: Adventure Challenge team;

Best Junior Cadet: Cdt. Hannah Taylor;

Boddy Trophy For Best NCO: Sgt. Jake Hastie;

Fryer Shield for Best Cadet: Cdt. Paul Ughra.

The evening was a celebration of the achievements of all the members of 1407 squadron. The range of awards on offer and the high calibre of the cadets shows why the squadron is still amongst the top squadrons in Durham/ Northumberland Wing. Flt Lt.
